From Hand to Head: The Next Agentic Device

The "iPhone moment" for AI hasn't happened yet, but Big Tech is racing to build it.

The Contenders

The graveyard of "AI hardware" is already full. The AI Pin, launched by ex-Apple executives, fell short. Meanwhile:

  • Jony Ive and OpenAI are reportedly collaborating on a secret hardware project.
  • Elon Musk continues to tease a Tesla-integrated phone.
  • Meta and Google are pivoting hard toward wearables.

Why Glasses Will Win the War

While the industry experiments with rings, bracelets, pins, and headsets, my bet is on smart glasses. Here's why the "head" will beat the "hand":

  • The Ultimate Data Stream: AI thrives on context. Glasses are the only form factor that captures a first-person view of the world. Since vision is the largest data set for model training, whoever controls the eyes controls the largest context.
  • The Fashion Moat: Unlike a bulky headset or a clunky pin, glasses are already a globally accepted fashion staple. They are versatile, lightweight, and expressive.
  • Biological Logic: Evolution gave us the perfect "docking station" for hardware. Our ears and the bridge of our nose serve as natural placeholders for a device that can stay on all day without friction.

May the Big and Bigger Ears Win!
